TRYST WITH LIFE

At last, Monami lost the hope of living. She stood on the last position of the peak and saw the movement of the clouds among the mountains. Often the clouds hid in the mountains, loosing their whiteness little bit. The greenish mountains stretched their hands to welcome them, but Monami has been unwelcomed by her husband. Indra called her liar, because she tried to be friendly with her long time friend. They spend few moments in this mountain, walking with the wind to discuss her willingness to be different. She used to write poems specially love poem, that also created problem with her husband who always thought there can be any relationship when her wife was seeking love from someone. But Monami loved him most. tried to make understand, when she saw the mountain, she felt that it was approaching to her stretching its hand and said, 'How are you?'
It was since 3 years Indra came with his family along with Monami and their daughter. Before coming here they have spent most of the time in urban area in Hooghly, and Indra never knew the love of poetry of his wife. He knew that for the survival in this world we need to be realistic rather that roam in the world of nothingness. But since came to Darjeling 3 years ago, Monami took her diary once again to write poems for her own. when she started it once again, she became softer to everyone which has not been accepted by her husband. He argued with her, but Monami could not control herself. She became an affectionate mother as well as loving wife, but Indra did not want to be involved in loving lesson except few moments when he could appease his hunger of body in expense of Monami. She accepted it naturally, because somehow she felt it was the right for a husband to do so. But after their acceptance moment, Indra kissed her and changed himself to be stubborn as he used to be.
Now Monami started to attend Poetry Conference, because she wanted to grow up. She met Nikhil, a renowned poet , who could easily be accepted to her because of his poetry. He used to call her, and they were engaging themselves for a longer period of time exchanging their views regarding poetry. One day Indra saw this, though Monami did not hide it from her husband. He felt, it was insult to him as he was present over there and she sought her full attention every time and every moment. He used some abusive language against Nikhil, termed him as 'goon' who made the relationship with other's wife. She tried to stop him, but it went in a rapid way. At last Indra slapped her. She stared at him and went away.
Monami decided to mill herself, because it is better to kill that to go for the negotiation once again, as it will not be stopped. She climbed up the mountain, she wanted to die on the lap of mountain. Suddenly, the rain started. She drenched in the rain because it would give last relief before the death. When she started to jump down from the mountain, suddenly, one hand holds her back. Who? A man , smiling at her making signal with his eyes why she is going to jump down. She could not move but does what has been instructed to her. Both of them drench in rain. The man takes her and they sit on the big rock. She tells, 'Please let me go, I want to die'.
'Yes you can die, but before that for the last time you need to drench'
She cannot say second words, but rather she sits. She watches the man enjoying the rain, smiling and showing his hands to the sky. But the rain stops, and the light enters from fold of clouds.
Again Monami tells,'Let me die'.
The man smiles and tells her 'Yes you can die but at first change your dress, otherwise you will be sick'.
How to change my dress? The question is ringing in the mind of her, is playing mind game with her? What he feels about me? When this question is still ringing in his mind, the man undress himself. She closes her eyes, but could not resist herself when the man is gladly singing the song of Rabindranath. Is he Bengali? He undresses himself and moves towards the sun. He is not taking any attention to Monami. He closes his eyes. Monami is surprised but she does not know what happens to her, she undresses herself as well. She is following him without talking to him. She does not know what will be happened to him after that. She now leaves all her dress behind a rock and approaches towards the man. she stands just behind him and closes her eyes. She is feeling the sun rather than she waits when she opens her eyes to see that man again.
She opens, but where is the man? Where is he? Where is his dress? She is standing there looking at the setting sun, and is feeling she is not feeling any shame but feels that she wants to go back to her house to write a new poem.
